It’s been some time since I’ve written content for the trusty blog. I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about what this blog space should look like in its current place, as life focuses change and shift with the seasons. Some of the things I’ve been thinking about are: Should I create new content? Should I archive old content? Should I just leave it alone- and let the blog’s evolution do what it may? I’ve made the decision to archive a large portion of my old content, and let the blog go where it may in my current creative adventures.
So what have I been up to?
Teaching:
In the past year, I have left traditional teaching, and begun teaching Game Design for a private EdTech company. While I do teach game logic in some of my classes, what I get to do primarily is teach all of the different topics I love: digital art, 3d modelling, animation, motion graphics, fine art, and graphic design. Being supported to teach my varied life passions in a fantastic environment that is not the public or private school systems, has completely reinvigorated my teaching and creative work.
Food Foresting
3 years ago, I was lucky enough to be able to purchase my first home. With this, I have been working on turning the small .25 acre plot into an edible food forest. Located in my backyard, the food forest will be entering year 3 this year. This is an exciitng time, as many of the perennial food producing plants I tried to establish in year one, will be producing this year. Honeyberries, Blueberries, Saskatoons, asparagus, rhubarb, and strawberries, to name a few. I’d have to consult my Food Forest Spreadsheet (don’t ask haha), but last I checked, there’s over 30 different kinds of food producing plants in the tiny backyard food forest.
Cycling:
I discovered cycling one year ago, and haven’t stopped since. Come along with me for my first RAGBRAI this July, as I cycle 500 miles across the rolling hills of Iowa, and try my hand at bike camping all summer.
Travel:
I’ll be traveling to Iceland in May of 2023. My first trip out of the country, I’m excited to tell the story.
All that said, I decided to start a Youtube channel as a weird creative experiment to document these things. Currently, my content has been largely archived from Tiktok, where I have somehow gained some sort of following haha, in the documentation of the food forest for the past 2 years. I’m excited to start using fancy cameras and a more cinematic style to document food foresting, travel, digital art, and bike adventures moving forward. I’m curious as to how this will play out, as Youtube content creation takes a very different style from Tiktok, which in my opinion, is more raw, uncut, unpolished, and organic in its interactions between users.
–Que Famous Youtuber Voice– SO COME ON OVER AND HIT THAT LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE BUTTON lol. I can’t even. But anyway, yeah, come on over if you’re curious and come along with me in this weird video experiment.
Here’s my channel: MEGAMEG
And here’s a little video on my first year of food foresting, summarized in 27 video clips:
