Memory(stream)flows. A Mixed Media Papercut Collage

Finally. Some Finished Work.

From the tentatively titled “Moments” series. Titles in debate for this body of work: Moments: In Living Image, Moments in Reverie, Moments in Image, or Moments: A Translucent Journey. Ugh. I need to pick one…(So bad with titles!

You’re new to the collage concept and it’s obvious that our compositional abilities have taken a (momentary) hit. But wow. This is a very powerful set of images and a technique that really suits your ADD mindset. I’m excited about the addition of a little bit of the third dimension.

As for titles, skip the poetry. Your titles sound like “the inoffensive sounds of of soft jazz”. Man, woman! You ain’t no fusion artist. Remember when you borrowed my Sleater-Kinney cd’s? Kick + ass =………….
Poetry doesn’t come from generic poetic words. Get specific. Let’s talk in person. Getting titles is not just putting a little sticker on the piece. It’s knowing what it’s about and nailing it. Keep up the good work. No. The excellent work.

  2. Lovely collage! It feels so nostalgic, like fond memories or dreams. Personally, I’m fond of the title “Moments: A Translucent Journey”.

  3. My love,
I have been obnoxious in my admiration of the new stuff. I stick with my original exclamation FUCKIN BALLER.
However, I have heard some concerns around the Quercus front that this is borderline cliche’. While I disagree, I can see some merit in this concern.
    Keep fighting.
    One heckuva job, brownie.

Lovely job, Meg. At first glance I thought the people on the parachute was the Millennium Falcon 😉

  6. Hi Meg, I have to cast my vote on the “like” side of the aisle. The use of 2D painted images to create a 3D space appeals to my theatre design aesthetic. I also do this sort of work, but it is usually done to illustrate children’s stories. Here’s an example of Little Red Riding Hood set in a a Romantic style background. http://www.johnhobbie.com/painting/red_riding_hood/riding_hood.htm
Don’t stop painting when you graduate. It’s easy to quit when you get a real job, so be careful. I look forward to seeing more travel journals. 😉

    1. John-

Thanks! And I just wanted to say…that the pop-up watercolor illustration image you sent me was absolutley beautiful! I did not know that this was a method of children’s book illustration. Maybe that’s a sign… ;D
